Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

August 30, 2018

If you are one of the many Americans today that are contemplating orthodontic treatment, we’re sure you’ve come to the crossroads between conventional metal braces and clear plastic aligners such as Invisalign. If you’re still wondering what option is best for you, and this post will discuss treatment processes, effects on your daily life, and other factors that should greatly impact your decision in helping you find the right orthodontic treatment for you.

How Traditional Braces Work

Let’s begin by taking a look at how traditional braces work. Traditional braces use a series of wires and brackets that cause pressure to shift your teeth to the ideal alignment over the course of about 2 years. Throughout your treatment plan, your brackets and wires remain in place making them a little bit more convenient than removable aligners and trays. It’s important to remember also that with Invisalign, patients need to make the time to brush and clean their aligners between meals. The only offset is that you will need to adjust your diet and oral hygiene to keep from damaging the brackets and wires and keeping your teeth clean.

How Invisalign Braces Work

Invisalign works by shifting your teeth until their ideal position using a series of clear of alignment trays. Each set of aligners represents one step closer to your ideal placement. The set of trays are usually worn for about two weeks at a time, meaning you can still continue enjoying your favorite foods and maintain the same oral hygiene routine. It’s important to remember that you need to keep a close eye on your aligners as they usually get lost, and treatment is completed within 6 to 18 months.
