NIGHT GUARDS

If you tend to wake up with a sore jaw, tooth pain, or a dull headache, you may need to contact us as you could be suffering from a condition called Bruxism, otherwise known as teeth grinding. According to the American Dental Association this condition affects about 10-15% of adults. Occasional teeth grinding usually doesn’t cause any harm, but if it occurs on a regular basis, it could result in tooth damage along with other oral health complications.

Interested in our custom mouthguards? One of the most common—and best—ways to address bruxism is with a night guard. These are retainer-like pieces of plastic that cover either the top or the bottom set of teeth. They’re worn during sleep to cushion your teeth from the force of clenching and prevent the molars from grinding together. This keeps your teeth safe and allows your loved ones to sleep more soundly.

Night guards can be obtained at your local pharmacy or through your dentist. The pharmacy type must be boiled to soften it before you bite into it to shape it to your teeth. This type is generally of lower quality and does not fit as well as the ones our dentist can provide. Having one made through our dental office requires getting an impression of your mouth taken by a dental professional and sent to a special laboratory. Because of this custom fit and higher quality, custom night guards are more comfortable to wear.
