The main benefit of dentures is that they can improve the ease with which an individual can speak and eat. Additionally, they may improve the look of the natural smile and fill out the appearance of the face and prevent the facial muscles from sagging. There are three types of dentures:
It usually takes several appointments over the course of several weeks to get dentures fitted properly. First, highly-accurate molds and measurements are taken of the mouth. These are used to create dentures. “Try-in” appointments may be necessary for your dentist to ensure the proper shape, color, and fit.
New dentures may feel uncomfortable and awkward at first and may cause irritation and soreness for a short period of time. Saliva flow also temporarily increases. However, the mouth should get accustomed to the new appliance, and these problems should subside. Dentures require cleaning just as natural teeth do, with daily brushing. The mouth should also be cleaned daily. Dentures need to be stored in water to keep them from warping.
